What's the bleep is Chairman McConnaughay up to now?

So here I am trying to take at least some of my Saturday off when I foolishly decide to take a look at the 10/25 special county board meeting agenda. That’s the big yearly budget bash folks! Apparently it pays to have a suspicious mind because, lo and behold, every single tax levy is up for a vote – right before a major election!
Not only that, but you can’t tell if they’re going up, down or flat, because all the agenda does is give you the final dollar amount (the Chairman has done it that way before). Typically, those levies aren’t considered until spring.
According to a source, skulduggery was the word of the day at Building A as behind closed door shenanigans were apparent and they quietly released the agenda right before the end of business on Friday (10/19). The question is, what’s the Chairman trying to accomplish? We all know Ms. McConnaughay is the only one who dares touch that agenda.
So is she:
1. Trying to make things as difficult as possible for incoming Chairman Chris Lauzen by surreptitiously hiking those levies so he can’t keep his flat levy promise? That would be a rather strange move after she made such a big show of throwing ally Cathy Hurlbut under the bus for even mentioning the word “increase,” but she’s done stranger things!
2. Is she keeping those numbers flat in a effort to say she did it before Lauzen did? (I’m guessing this is the one!)
3. Or is she trying to put those “undesirable” and on-the-bubble board members in an awkward pre-election position by forcing an early vote?
What’s the urgency Chairman? Last year, the county board didn’t finalize the budget until the November meeting! And who in their right mind tackles this kind of thing right before an election – unless they’re already leaving and have something to gain by doing it.
County Board members! I suggest you go over this agenda with a fine tooth comb and come prepared to ask the right questions on Thursday because the only thing I can tell you for sure is, the Chairman’s up to something.
