An especially big thank you to eminently reasonable Metra Board member Jack Schaffer for calling into theJack Schaffer show and telling it like it is. Is there any Jedi Knight out there who can rid us of Darth Madigan?
We also covered the seemingly eternal U46 discrimination suit which may well be coming to a close. Our fondest wish is to have a member of the defense team on the show soon.
Another thanks to 25th District State Senator Jim Oberweis for calling in. In a too-rate bipartisan effort with other state reps, Jim will be one of the hosts at a well-worthwhile Saturday, July 20 health care symposium at Marmion School in Aurora. You can learn more about it here.
I know it’s bad form for a former columnist to take so much delight in a news outlet’s unimaginable incompetence and it’s even worse to take delight in stupid stereotypes, but this time I just can’t help myself.
You’ve probably already heard this story, but in case you haven’t, when a San Francisco news station covered the recent Asiana Airlines crash they reported the pilots’ names as:
Captain Sum Ting Wong
Wi Tu Lo
Ho Lee Fuk, and
Bang Ding Ow
Being a suspicious group, the newroom called the NTSB only to have a summer intern confirm those names as 100 percent accurate. He lost his non-paying job, of course, but what a way to go. When I saw the story on the Daily Show I laughed my ass off for 10 straight minutes.
Fuk’n c’mon folks. What competent news director in just half of his right mind would ever have the nerve to hand that sheet of paper to the on air talent and say “read it!” complete with background graphic! Then they have the nerve to wonder why the estimation of the media may well be right around our contempt for Congress.
And Bill Maher was even funnier when he said, “Now that we know the cause of that Asiana Airlines crash was the pilots flying too slowly, I don’t want to hear another word about me doing Asian driver jokes.”
Truth, my friends, is indeed, far stranger than fiction.
A big thank you for Illinois GOP Treasurer candidate Michael Scott Carter who made so much sense he got my vote!
Another tip of the hat to Stacy Kranz who warned us all of the perils of puppy mills and stores who sell those poor creatures. Why get a puppy when there are so many great dogs that need to be adopted from local shelters and pet rescues.
We also discussed Governor Quinn’s not-so-subtle blackmail attempt as well as the new federal immigration bill that’s being demolished as we speak.
