Since I know you’ve been up all night in anticipation of this post, let’s move on to the countywide races. Since there aren’t very many, we’ll just go ahead and cover all of ’em.
Circuit Clerk – Tom Hartwell
Though I’ll certainly miss Deb Seyller and the amusing way she had of getting under Darth McConnaughay’s eminently thin skin, I think Mr. Hartwell will do an excellent job. Let’s face it folks, anyone that uses one of my columns as campaign literature has to be a pretty smart guy.
Recorder – Sandy Wegman
Though I certainly like Democratic contender Brenda Rogers, I think Sandy has a good handle on the gig and there’s no real need to replace her. You know an elected official is doing a good job when the only time you ever hear about them is around election time.
State’s Attorney – Joe McMahon
C’mon! It’s time to get over the absurd notion that absolutely anyone Darth McConnaughay picked will eventually embrace the dark side of the force. Joe has done such a great job he’s running unopposed.
Auditor – Terry Hunt
Mr. Hunt is also flying solo, but I do want to take this opportunity to point out how lucky we were to avoid sith lord padawan, Laura Wallett. Only Jotham Stein is worse than this woman, who, like Batman’s unquenchable arch enemy the Joker, will inevitably return to plague Gotham County.
Coroner – Tao Martinez
For all the reasons we’ve already discussed. Rob Russell is a weak candidate who trained under a corrupt sheriff and he doesn’t choose his political friends wisely. Beyond all that, Tao will do a better job.
Chairman – Chris Lauzen
Does he even have a Democratic opponent? I don’t think so!
Can Chris be cranky? Sure! But so can I! There’s nothing wrong with ornery in the appropriate doses (just ask the President). Is Chris ready to step into a leadership role? I can unequivocally say yes. It’s time to put someone in that seat who treats our money as if it were his own. It’s time to “hire” someone who doesn’t believe they’re entitled to the job. This one’s a no brainer folks!
So that’s it for today. Tomorrow we will cover the State and Federal races. You wouldn’t want to be Jim Oberweis.
