I loved the walk with the Mayor

Even this jaded journalist learned something from participating in Elgin’s Walk With the Mayor program.  And I cover those lessons in today’s Courier-News column.
In a political era where rancor reigns supreme, it was fascinating to watch a mayor completely countermand that trend and bring civility back to the process.  A good friend likes to tell me that very few politicians understand the concept of quality time, but not Mayor Kaptain!

  1. I read the COURIER piece. People speak more freely when the event is “unofficial.”
Referring to village and town festivals, retired Elburn police chief Wayne Byerhof says it best:
“An informal event that gets people together to eat, meet and talk goes a long way to getting little'”problems” solved before they become BIG PROBLEMS.”
