Paul Ryan? It's already over!

First,  it was great to see the 800-ish folks at Chris Lauzen’s Porky Picnic last Saturday. Whether you like the Senator or not, only he can bring in those kind of fundraising numbers.
But while almost everyone in attendance was heralding Mr. Romney’s VP pick, I sadly, proceeded to rain on their parade.  Paul Ryan could not have been a more abysmal choice. It’s even worse than Sarah Palin. You heard it here first. Barack Obama wins handily in November.
And remember! This prophecy comes from a columnist who’s called just one election wrong in the last 15 years.
The entire point of picking your VP is to engage voters who would not otherwise be engaged, not to choose your evil twin. So now we have two pasty white northern ideologues (one real and one fake) and the people who we’re going to vote for Mitt are still going to vote for him.
Republicans are making the rookie mistake of believing their own Fox News propaganda. They seem to have forgotten that, in order for them to prevail in a national election, they have to curry crossover votes. Their efforts to disenfranchise p0or and minority voters via absurd voter ID law simply won’t be enough.

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would’ve been a devastating choice for all the obvious reasons. FLA Senator Marco Rubio would’ve been equally difficult for the Democrats. But Paul Ryan? A lightning rod uber conservative who might well not be able to pull off another Wisconsin win?
As one sane KC GOP regular said at the Porky Picnic, “Who the hell is advising Romney?” My response was, “The same nitwit that advised Kevin Burns in the county chair race.” When will they understand that the old boy network really isn’t a political strategy.
More on this in the Beacon-News on Sunday!
