Rob Russell has a strange way of making friends

I’ve been meaning to put this out here for awhile, but it took a county board member’s timely reminder to actually get me to do it. Throughout his campaign, KC GOP Coroner candidate Rob Russell has repeatedly issued two fascinating and unique proclamations:
1. We should elect him because he’s a law enforcement officer and because, if it ever comes down to it, the coroner is the only one with the power arrest the sheriff, and
2. We should elect him because he’s a law enforcement officer and because, if the sheriff cannot fulfill his duties, the Coroner immediately steps into that office.
Does he know something we don’t know? From the sheer tone of it, one has to start to wonderin’ if Sheriff Perez is running a meth lab out of his garage and/or that heart transplant donor just ain’t comin’ through.
While he’s kind of right on number one, if Ken Ramsey and DuPage Sheriff John Zaruba have managed to avoid the silver bracelets, it ain’t gonna happen in Kane County any time soon. And number two would only come to pass if there were no undersheriff or second in command and Dave Wagner fills that bill rather nicely.
So When you consider how closely the sheriff and coroner have to work together, Mr. Russell certainly has a strange sense of exactly what a diplomatic overture might be. I don’t know about you, but were I in his candidate’s shoes, I’d probably do my best to avoid any talk of arresting or bumping off the Sheriff.
But who knows! Maybe I’m the crazy one.

  1. I’m in Cook County. I didn’t know anything about the local offices. So, I didn’t vote for anyone running for them. Guys like Rob Russell are the reason. I wouldn’t want to vote for them inadvertently by voting straight ticket. Neither party has an exclusive lock on idiots.
