No! Kane County Republicans can't get along

Oh lord! Though I’ve certainly set off a few tsunamis in my day, it’s always the unintended ones that cause the most commotion.
This one started when Democratic Coroner candidate Tao Martinez came to me for counsel as many smart politicians have already done. For the record, I will happily advise any candidate – even Ms. McConnaughay – should they humbly seek my pearls of wisdom.
That said, I’m guessing the Chairman wouldn’t appreciate my advice very much.
I suggested that, given opponent Rob Russell’s lack of KC GOP popularity borne of his poor choice of friends, Martinez should make overtures to key KC Republicans. Apparently taking me up on it, Tao showed up at last night’s (10/16) Elgin Township Republican get together.
So of course, the clown prince of all things Kane County, Ken Shepro, sends out an email accusing Chris Lauzen and his wife of foisting Martinez upon the gathering in an obvious show of defiance. Trust me, nothing could be further from the truth.
Did some of the folks in attendance speak with him? Of course they did! It would be rude not to. But rest assured, Tao came of his own volition, somewhat incited by yours truly.
Then that living embodiment of Eddie Haskell, Jim Oberweis, spied the wolf among the sheep, and faster than a narc at a Bob Marley fan club meeting, ratted out Martinez and had him unceremoniously removed. Jim! You’re really starting to piss me off. I think it’s time for you and I to have another face to face talk.
Had I known Tao was going to attend that meeting, I would’ve explained that he needed to call Chairman Dave Rickert and get his blessing before gracing the GOP with his presence.
To my Kane County Republican brethren I say this. Haven’t you had enough of Ms. McConnaughay’s and Ken Shepro’s immature antics? Do you really think Rob Russel is better candidate than Tao Martinez? Do what’s right for the party, throw off your shackles, disown those mopes, and be done with them.
I’m not saying you have to back Martinez publicly, but we all know how that behind the scenes grapevine works.
Support Tao Martinez for Coroner!

  1. I can remember a column you wrote 6 years ago about the behavior of Pat Perez’s opponent for the Sheriff’s race (I can’t even remember his name now) and it really made me take a good hard look at Perez as a result. All in all, I cannot say that I have been disappointed with Mr. Perez’s performance as Sheriff. I will make sure to look at Mr. Martinez.
