The swearing in had me swearing at 'em

First off, sorry for the recent dearth of posts here, but believe it or not, I needed a bit of a writing break. But now it’s back to the business at hand.  board
Today’s Kane County swearing in ceremony was certainly something to behold. I haven’t seen the gallery so packed since the gambling machines in bars thing and the Health Department cuts fracas. Of course, most of ’em were family and friends, but it was still nice to see so much public participation.
But what I thought would be a relatively quick collective swearing in turned into each and every fricken’ board member heading up to Chief Judge Judith Brawka (the good Judge Judy) to individually take the oath. And every time one of ’em got in line, then another got up to prolong our agony.
It got to the point where I started telling them to sit their butts down or I’d jump over the railing and force Sheriff Perez to pull me off ’em. Either that or I was going to sneak into the queue and be sworn in before anyone noticed.
But God bless board members Myrna Molina, Ron Ford, John Hoscheit, Mike Donahue, Monica Silva and Mike Kenyon who got up and did a group thing at the end (get your mind out of the gutter!) and moved the proceedings on to the county-wide elected officials.
I have to say, the part of the oath I like best was when board members had to repeat something to the effect of “I’m capable of performing the duty of county board member.” Ain’t that a bit like bragging about being the tallest midget in the circus? Half the battle is simply showing up.
So it’s a new day in Kane County. Let’s hope this group chooses to govern wisely.
