Translated, that means “Not even you believe it,” or as my favorite TV judge often defines it, “Not even you believe what you’re saying.” And the truth is, the progressive faction of the Elgin City Council couldn’t make it past the first lie detector test question – “What’s your name?” without setting the machine off.
After Mayor Dave Kaptain’s February 2020 attempt to put some teeth into the City’s ethics ordinance went down in flames at the hands of councilmen Corey Dixon, Tish Powell, John Steffen, Carol Rauschenberger, and Baldemar Lopez, the normally silent Toby Shaw just attempted to resurrect it, particularly in regard to whether lobbyists can serve on that body.
While that may seem pretty cut and dried to us regular folks, those progressive geniuses were beyond perplexed by this “peculiar” notion. Powell, who isn’t nearly this stupid, actually had the nerve to say:
