If you recall from my Patch days, I was concerned that the entitled and somewhat slow mopes at the Geneva Township would slate a write-in lackey to counter current write-in candidate Geoffrey Carreiro.
You already know that Carriero was the gentleman who decided to run for the open Township Clerk spot until, as township trustee Robert Kovacs so eloquently told the press, they kicked him off the ballot so they could subvert the democratic process and appoint their own favored son or daughter to that patronage plum.
Sure enough, just before the Feb. 7 deadline, a Debbie Draus also submitted her clerk write-in paperwork. Who is Debbie Draus you ask? Why, she’s politically active Geneva gadfly Joe Stanton’s assistant.
Of course, Joe Stanton is the duplicitous developer who told the city council he had to tear down the Rt. 38 Pure Oil building because it couldn’t be turned into a bank drive through until he turned it into a bank drive through. Joe has been known to “stretch the truth” whenever it suits him.
In fairness to her, I spoke with Ms. Draus who assured me her intentions were noble, she wants to serve, she’s qualified, she has no connection to that slimy and megalomaniacal township supervisor Pat Jaeger, and Stanton did not put her up to running.
But I’m not so sure I’m buying it. Though I haven’t been able to ferret out any direction connection between Stanton on Jaeger on this issue (yet!), this strange set of coincidences makes me very nervous.
You see, despite the fact that he’s terrible at it, Stanton fancies himself to be a local kingmaker. He was the “brains” and a great deal of the money behind Mayor Burns’ county chair campaign and, right up to election day, he believed Burns would prevail in the face of a mountain of evidence to the contrary.
As you already know, Burns went down in 40 point flames.
Though, I promise you I’ll keep digging on this one, for now, I’ll simply wish Ms. Draus the best.
That said, given these simple facts, I certainly won’t be voting for her. I’ll be writing in Geoffrey Carreiro for Township Clerk and I hope you will too!
Now we need to work on getting rid of Mr. Jaeger.
