In the chip off the old block category, Kaneland School Board member Joe Oberweis, son of Jim, found himself in some hot water relatively recently.

To set the stage, Kaneland – and many other school district 4th graders – make an annual pilgrimage to Springfield and then they write about the experience.
One McDole 4th grader did such a great job she was asked to read her essay to the school board, which, as you know, is a big deal for a 9 year-old. But when she covered the conclusion of the field trip which consisted of visiting a non-oberweis all you can eat ice cream bar, Joe booed her!
Now, I’m sure it was meant to be a joke, but c’mon! Talk about raining on a 4th grader’s big day! In the end, this is the same Oberweis obliviousness I’ve been so prone to pointing out.
Thankfully, Kaneland Superintendent Jeff Schuler quietly called out the younger Oberweis, who, to his credit, issued a letter of apology to both the student and her teacher.
Meanwhile, the asset management company that still bears his name (run by his other son), is heavily invested in Acacia Research. According to Business Week, Acacia Research Corporation is a “patent trolling” enterprise that patents technologies out from under companies and then sues them. By 2010, the company had filed 337 patent related lawsuits.
Acacia neither manufactures nor creates anything. Yeah Jim is a job creator alright – as long as minimum wage is what you’re really after.
You know what, it’s time to vote for Corinne Pierog and put Jim Oberweis and his entire family out of our collective misery.
I hate patent trolls. If I won the lottery, I’d sue to have a Writ of Mandamus against the PTO because patent trolls violate the raison d’etre for the PTO given in the Constitution. Now that I understand Oberweiss, their ice cream will never taste as good.
