As a result of today’s (10/2) Quick Hits, in which I described how no pundit on the planet could possibly comprehend or explain Governor Rauner’s bizarre political moves, a couple of impeccable sources reached out to say the Guv ain’t gonna run again.
And I’m giving this story credence because it would be the only explanation for why Bruce Rauner abandoned his conservative allies by suddenly signing HB 40 which greatly expands taxpayer subsidized abortions in Illinois.
That bill also means, should Roe v. Wade be overturned at the federal level, abortions will remain legal in the Land of Lincoln.
Though these kinds “rumors” don’t always pan out, this one would fit the Governor’s general “I’m going to blame everyone else for my own mistakes” mindset. First, his original staffers failed him on the budget battle and they were gone. Then his Illinois Policy Institute pals did him wrong, so they were gone.
And now, apparently the governor’s going to be gone.
Perhaps Bruce believes conservatives led him down the “take back Springfield” primrose path so he decided to show his displeasure by signing HB 40 and bowing out.
Of course, failing to learn anything from the general debacle that’s left Speaker Madigan in complete Springfield control, Dan Proft and his crew will push another ultra-conservative candidate through the primary only to have them summarily dispatched by any Democratic nominee whatsoever.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Just remember, you heard it here first (unless I’m wrong!).
